VHA Names Four New Board Members

    IRVING, Texas, April 25 /PRNewswire/ -- VHA Inc. has elected four new
 members to its board of directors.  The selections were announced at the
 annual VHA Leadership Conference, held this year in Los Angeles.
     The new directors are: John T. Crotty, president and chief executive
 officer of CroBern Management Partnership Inc. in Lake Bluff, Ill.; Jean R.
 Elrick, M.D., vice president of Partners HealthCare System Inc. in Boston; G.
 Richard Hastings, president and chief executive officer of Saint Luke's-
 Shawnee Mission Health System in Kansas City, Mo.; and Vincent E. Kerr, M.D.,
 director of health care management of Ford Motor Co. in Dearborn, Mich.
     "These individuals bring new depth and diversity to the VHA board," said
 C. Thomas Smith, president and chief executive officer of VHA.  "Their
 experience and expertise will strengthen our ability to provide superior
 service to our members."
     As managing partner of CroBern Management Partnership, Crotty has directed
 the development of 17 health care companies.  He is also president and chief
 executive officer of CroBern Inc., a health care consulting and advisory firm.
 Crotty earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Grinnell College in
 Grinnell, Iowa, and a master's degree from the University of Chicago.
     Dr. Elrick's responsibilities include managing marketing, supply chain
 management, and joint operating programs at Partners, which includes
 Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital.  She is also
 an assistant clinical professor of anesthesia and critical care at Harvard
 Medical School in Boston.  Dr. Elrick earned a bachelor's degree in computer
 science from the University of Massachusetts in Boston and a medical degree
 from Harvard Medical School in Boston.
     Hastings oversees the operations of Saint Luke's-Shawnee Mission Health
 System (Mo.) which includes 642-bed Saint Luke's Hospital of Kansas City and
 383-bed Shawnee Mission Medical Center.  He serves on numerous boards
 including Novation, the supply company of VHA Inc. and University HealthSystem
 Consortium.  Hastings received his bachelor's degree from the University of
 Oklahoma in Norman, and his master's degrees from Chapman University in
 Orange, Calif., and the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
     Dr. Kerr manages a $3 billion health care benefits budget for Ford Motor
 Co., and he has global responsibility for clinical operations and health and
 safety.  He serves on numerous committees and boards including the Medical
 Directors Forum. Dr. Kerr received his bachelor's degree at Harvard University
 in Cambridge, Mass., and his doctorate of medicine from the Yale University
 School of Medicine in New Haven, Conn.
     Completing their terms as VHA directors: Clyde H. Beck, Jr., M.D., senior
 vice president and chief community health officer of ScrippsHealth in San
 Diego; Patrick G. Hays, consultant, Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association in
 Chicago; Anthony E. Watkins, M.D., president of the medical and dental staff
 at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.; and John C. McMeekin,
 former president and chief executive officer of Crozer-Keystone Health System
 in Springfield, Pa.
