GAITHERSBURG, Md., April 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Viaken Systems Inc.
(Viaken)(TM), the premier bioinformatics solutions provider, today announced
that it has expanded its management team, hiring two new sales executives with
extensive informatics sales management expertise. Andrew Lambert has been
appointed as the vice president of sales for Viaken's worldwide operations,
and Oliver Bayliss has been hired as director of European sales.
"We have spent the past year building our product and service offerings in
order to provide our clients with the highest quality bioinformatics
solutions," explained Dr. Keith O. Elliston, president and CEO of Viaken. "To
this, Andy brings his enterprise solutions sales management expertise,
complemented by Oliver's deep domain experience in bioinformatics sales. Andy
will concentrate on building a world-class direct and channel partner sales
team, and Oliver will spearhead our sales push into Europe."
"I am looking forward to the opportunity of working with the world-class
team at Viaken," said Lambert. "Between the company's impressive management
group of biotech, pharmaceutical, and IT experts; its partnerships with
industry-leading companies; and its strong product and service offerings, I
have a solid base in which to build Viaken's sales efforts. Viaken's IT
outsourcing strategy provides its customers a cost-effective way to access
 state-of-the-art bioinformatics solutions."
Prior to joining Viaken, Lambert was the group vice president and a senior
partner at Cerner Corporation, a leading healthcare IT services company.
Before Cerner, Lambert was the vice president of sales for Health Vision Corp.
Lambert honed his healthcare information systems expertise as a senior sales
executive for Apache Medical Systems, and as the national sales manager for
Critikon, a Johnson and Johnson company. He earned his bachelor's degree in
biology and sociology from Bethany College and is a member of the Health
 Information Management Systems Society.
"With one third of the world's pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies
based in Europe, this is an important market for Viaken," said Bayliss.
"Similar to the U.S., the strong competitive environment that has developed in
Europe is creating the need for state-of-the-art informatics technologies.
Viaken's hosted solutions approach is the answer to helping companies speed
 the drug discovery process."
Before joining Viaken, Bayliss was the director of bioinformatics sales
for Pharmacopeia, a software developer for DNA and protein sequence analysis.
He spent five years as the European sales manager for Oxford Molecular, a
developer of software to assist drug discovery research. Bayliss was also the
European sales manager for DNAStar Ltd., another software developer for DNA
and protein sequence analysis. His career began in the IT arena as the
director and founder of Computing In Action Ltd., a provider of consulting and
software solutions to computer-aided design (CAD) and database users. He then
became the major account manager for Source Two Ltd., a value-added reseller
of turnkey CAD systems. Bayliss earned a bachelor's degree in engineering
