Vice Admiral David Buss, USN (Ret) Named Honorary Chairperson of Fleet Week San Diego 2015

SAN DIEGO, Aug. 4, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The San Diego Fleet Week Foundation is proud to announce its 2015 Honorary Chair is Vice Admiral David Buss, USN (Ret.), former Commander, Naval Air Forces. While serving as the Navy's Air Boss from October 2012 through January 2015, Buss ensured the material readiness, administration, and training for all Naval Aviation commands and provided operationally ready squadrons and aircraft carriers to the fleet.

"As Air Boss, Vice Admiral Buss was intimately involved with the Fleet Week Coronado Speed Festival on Naval Air Station North Island, as well as one of that event's most popular attractions, the Military Pit Crew Challenge," says Brian Sack, Executive Director of Fleet Week San Diego.  "We are fortunate that he agreed to be our Honorary Chair."

During his 36-year career on active duty, Buss was privileged to serve with teams that excelled in combat operations and he wears the Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross (with Combat V), Bronze Star Medal, and Air Medal as representative of those teams.

Prior to taking command as the Air Boss, Buss served as the Deputy Commander, United States Fleet Forces Command in Norfolk, Virginia. He also commanded Task Force 20 (formerly U.S. Second Fleet) where he was responsible for training and certifying all Atlantic Fleet naval forces for overseas deployment. A career Naval Flight Officer, Buss served in multiple jet squadrons and staff assignments, and has commanded at every level of the Navy from Commander to Vice Admiral.
