VISTAinfo RE/Xplorer 2.0 Release Expands Boundaries of MLS Technology; Field Trials Kick Off, Product Debut Scheduled for May Trade Show

Apr 24, 2001, 01:00 ET from VISTAinfo

SAN DIEGO, April 24 /PRNewswire Interactive News Release/ -- Field trials
have begun for the next generation of VISTAinfo's RE/Xplorer(R), North
America's most installed browser-driven Multiple Listings Service (MLS)
system. The 2.0 release will be unveiled officially at the National
Association of REALTORS(R) (NAR) 2001 Midyear Legislative Meetings & Trade
Expo, May 15 - 19 in Washington, D.C. Product demonstrations will showcase
the ability to boost individual productivity and provide real-time information
and communications capabilities, thus enhancing the value to the MLS
membership. Customer installations of RE/Xplorer 2.0 will begin in July.
RE/Xplorer has been available on the Internet since 1997, and this next
generation outpaces all competitors. The new RE/Xplorer 2.0 features
unmatched technological innovations for enhanced searches, contact management,
communication and graphics. Architectural updates include extensible markup
language (XML) and extensible stylesheet language (XSL), allowing real estate
professionals to customize, search and display data more effectively. The
system scales easily to accommodate MLS growth and adapt to organizations of
varying sizes. RE/Xplorer 2.0 also synchronizes to Palm(TM) handheld
computers; access for Web-enabled phones and other wireless technologies is
 expected in subsequent updates.
VISTAinfo executives say the most powerful selling point may be the
 product's ongoing reputation for reliability. Thirty-seven RE/Xplorer
contracts have been signed, with 34 already installed. Customers with signed
contracts also receive free RE/Xplorer upgrades.
"RE/Xplorer is aptly named. It's been the industry's trailblazer," said
Dave Barczak, senior vice president and general manager, VISTAinfo's
RE/Professional Group. "We've built a reputation for providing outstanding
service and product innovation with more than 150,000 RE/Xplorer users.
VISTAinfo has responded to real estate professionals on enhancing function,
features and platform architecture. That's why we're seeing such positive
reception from the field trials for RE/Xplorer 2.0."
Don Hull, who manages Consolidated MLS in Norwalk, Conn., launched the
field trials in his organization March 29, 2001.
"This represents a big leap in the technology," said Hull. "Our
membership has been clamoring for Web-based tools that connect us to customers
and other market resources and that can synch with handhelds to update
schedules and contacts. Factor in RE/Xplorer's integration and VISTAinfo's
commitment to testing and customer service, and you have a powerful new way of
 doing business."
As the cornerstone of VISTAinfo's National MLS Infrastructure (NMI),
RE/Xplorer uses the open data exchange platform sanctioned by NAR,
incorporating the Real Estate Transaction Set (RETS), XML and XSL. That
platform allows secure communication, data sharing and data manipulation
between any agent, franchise, broker software or system that uses the NAR
standard. For example, it enables real estate professionals using RE/Xplorer
to access listings across state lines without belonging to multiple MLSs, as
members of the Northeast Regional Alliance (comprised of the State-Wide
Multiple Listing Service of Rhode Island, Consolidated MLS of Connecticut and
 Massachusetts MLS PIN) do.
Appointments for demonstrations of RE/Xplorer 2.0 at the NAR Midyear
Legislative Meetings & Trade Expo in Washington, D.C. can be made by
contacting a VISTAinfo MLS sales representative at (800) 876-6367 or by
