Customers Can Now Run Windows on Linux for Just $49.95

Jul 16, 2001, 01:00 ET from VMware, Inc.

PALO ALTO, Calif., July 16 /PRNewswire/ -- VMware, Inc., the leader in
virtualization software for Intel computers, announced today that it will
offer VMware Express -- software that enables Linux users to run either
Microsoft Windows 95 or 98 and their applications in a virtual machine on
Linux systems -- at $49.95, a 40% reduction off the current Express list price
 of $79.00.
The new offer, which is available directly from VMware on its Web store at
http://www.vmware.com/vmwarestore , applies to both electronic purchases and
boxed versions of the product. VMware has changed the price to better serve
the IT and academic customers who have championed the product.
"VMware Express offers Linux users a robust and targeted version of the
award-winning virtualization technology that distinguishes VMware's entire
product line," said Susan Thomas, vice president of marketing at VMware. "We
believe that our new pricing is appropriate for Linux users who want the power
of VMware's virtual-machine technology for the sole purpose of running Windows
 on Linux."
In addition to VMware Express, VMware sells VMware Workstation, a
market-leading desktop product that allows users to run multiple operating
systems and their applications on a single PC. VMware's server products
enable enterprises to consolidate servers, decrease management costs, and
increase reliability by running multiple independent operating systems on a
 single physical server.
