VMware Forms Professional Services Organization and Announces New Offerings to Ensure Customer Success

Dec 05, 2000, 00:00 ET from VMware, Inc.

PALO ALTO, Calif., Dec. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- VMware, Inc. (www.vmware.com)
announced today that it has formed a new Professional Services Organization
(PSO) to work with service providers and enterprise information technology
(IT) organizations to ensure the successful implementation of VMware's new
server products. VMware also announced the first new services and support
 offerings from the group.

     Offerings include:

-- Customer Support Services -- A suite of support offerings mapped to the
needs of each customer, ranging from simple Web-based self-service to
24x7 coverage from highly trained support engineers. This augments
VMware's current Web-based support for the company's desktop products.
-- Education Services -- An extensive library of courseware to provide
instruction on VMware's products at all levels, delivered at VMware or
        onsite.
-- Consulting Services -- Custom solutions from professionals well versed
in VMware products, technical and systems management architectures, and
        project management.

To head up this new organization, VMware tapped Bill Rudiak to be its vice
president of professional services (see separate news release).
"Bill brings a wealth of experience and talent to the job of working with
customers to deliver the support, educational and consulting services they
need," said Diane Greene, co-founder, president and chief executive officer of
VMware. "We're committed to working with every customer to ensure successful
implementation and satisfaction with every one of our products."

     New Tiered Customer Support Offerings
VMware's tiered customer support offerings start with free limited
warranty support, typically for 90 days, and also include premium support at
the Silver, Gold and Platinum (24x7) levels. Premium support pricing ranges
from 10-25% of the gross license or monthly software fee, depending on which
option customers choose. Silver and Gold level programs are available today,
with Pay-As-You-Go incident support and Platinum level programs available in
 February 2001.

     New Education Services
Offerings range from standard, regularly scheduled courses for customers
and channel partners to ensure proficiency with our products to custom onsite
training for customers planning larger VMware installations and deployments.
These classroom-style courses are complemented by short online webinars hosted
by the top engineering professionals at VMware and throughout the industry and
are designed to provide timely information and tips for getting the most from
 our VMware products.

     New Consulting Services
VMware's consulting solutions are designed to help customers at any stage
of their process -- from gathering business and technical requirements to
custom development and integration with existing business systems and
 processes. Consulting services include:

-- QuickStart -- A template-driven set of services designed to get
customers up and running quickly on VMware's new GSX Server and ESX
Server products. QuickStart includes planning and installation of an
initial pilot implementation coupled with targeted education and onsite
mentoring. Consultants assist customers through an initial "go-live"
milestone to ensure the solution works to their satisfaction.
-- Custom Solution Architecture and Implementation -- For more complex GSX
Server and ESX Server applications, VMware's consulting professionals
design and deploy a custom solution that deals with requirements such
as failover, multiple locations, and integration with existing systems
        management environments.
