    SYOSSET, N.Y., April 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Waterways, home to the country's
largest single online source of boating safety equipment, launched its
inaugural web site, http://www.waterways.tv, in March. Millennium
Communications, Inc., a full-service marketing and technology company based in
Syosset, New York, designed and hosts this unique site.
Waterways was founded on the principle that, through education and access
to time-tested safety equipment, boating accidents and tragedies can be
reduced, and hopefully, eliminated. Ninety-five percent of Waterway's product
line will be dedicated to safety products for motor boats/yachts, sailboats,
and personal watercraft. In addition to safety products, Waterways will sell
 navigational supplies.
"The most important consideration in designing the site was to maintain
the integrity of selling water safety products as opposed to general boating
supplies," states Pat Macri, President of Millennium Communications. "The
look and feel is consistent with Waterways' marketing approach which expresses
concern for safety, while capitalizing on the allure of the sea. We designed
the site to accommodate a consumer who wants quick access to information and
an ordering process that's simple and efficient."
The web site allows products to fall into a hierarchy of product
categorization that makes it easy for consumers to understand product
organization and searching methodologies. Built using ColdFusion, HTML and a
SQL 7.0 database, the site employs a powerful search feature where users can
find products by keyword, SKU number, or by drilling down through product
categories and sub-categories. Consumers can obtain specific product
information with a minimal amount of clicks, simplifying the purchasing and
 checkout process.
"Waterways is another significant contribution to our e-commerce portfolio
of web development projects," notes David Denara, Millennium's Chief
Technology Officer. "This project was particularly challenging since we
wanted to build and launch the site prior to the beginning of our customer's
main selling season. We achieved our goal and designed a site to include a
content management system that empowers our client to grow the product lines
 for large scalability."
This content management system allows products to be classified and easily
updated. Millennium created the concept of product families within product
sub-categories to allow for centralized product features and benefits, as well
as specific SKU numbers for individual products. Waterways has the ability to
create new information pages with fresh images and integrated links to
specific product families. Moreover, the e-commerce engine is shared with
other sites that are sub-divisions of the same company.
Waterways offers a vast selection of items, quality name brands and the
satisfaction of making purchases in a safe, secure shopping environment. To
 access the site, visit http://www.waterways.tv.
