Apr 30, 2001, 01:00 ET from Wireless Communications Association

WASHINGTON, April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- The Wireless Communications
Association (WCA) and leading tele-health provider FONEMED jointly announced
today the formation of a Tele-Health Task Force within the WCA advocating
improved access to health care over broadband wireless. The task force will
hold its first meeting in Boston on June 26 in conjunction with WCA's annual
 show WCA 2001: Broadband Now!
"Improving access to health care through telecommunications is important
to the members of WCA," commented WCA President Andrew Kreig. "It is a high
priority for the political and regulatory authorities whose decisions affect
the wireless industry as well as a growing source of demand for broadband
infrastructure and services. WCA is launching this initiative to ensure that
our organization and its members stay ahead of the curve on this issue, and to
 encourage specific tele-health projects."
FONEMED President & CEO Ken Bleakley said, "Wireless broadband provides a
means to connect rural and undeserved areas with health information and
services and to expand access to health care for all. This WCA initiative
will help its members to demonstrate that intelligent use of radio spectrum,
enlightened telecommunications regulatory policies and a stable competitive
environment can also advance national social objectives."
