    SANTA CLARA, Calif., April 3 /PRNewswire/ -- WebGain, Inc., a provider of
 e-business automation software, today announced the acquisition of Metamata,
 Inc., a supplier of Java development environment and productivity software.
 Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.  The addition of Metamata allows
 enhancement of WebGain's distributed debugging capabilities with additional
 code analysis, metrics and coverage functionality.  The acquisition extends
 WebGain's Java-based product set, allowing developers to deliver higher
 quality applications more rapidly.
     Metamata was founded in 1997 in Fremont, California and has focused on
 providing developers with products for enhancing productivity and quality in
 Java applications.  The company's products include Metamata Debug, Audit,
 Metrics, Cover, Parse and RMILite.  Metamata's development environment is
 compatible with JDK 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3 Virtual Machines, and on systems running
 Linux, Solaris, HP-UX, Irix and Windows.
