AURORA, Ill., April 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Westell Technologies, Inc.
(Nasdaq: WSTL), a leading provider of DSL technology, today unveiled WebShare
Pro(TM), the next level of its residential gateway solution for small business
and home networking. Westell also announced that users of the company's
original WebShare(TM) software, as well as anyone who purchases it before
May 16, 2001 through the company's Web store, will be entitled to a free
 upgrade to WebShare Pro.

WebShare Pro is a simple, low-cost software solution that turns an
existing Westell WireSpeed(TM) modem into a residential gateway that enables
up to 253 users to share a single broadband Internet connection. WebShare Pro
works together with a Westell WireSpeed Ethernet DSL modem and an Ethernet hub
to provide a simple broadband solution. The WebShare Pro solution eliminates
the expense of adding a dedicated DSL connection for each PC because it allows
multiple PC users to share the same DSL connection.
"WebShare Pro represents a major step forward in terms of cost-effective
solutions for those who need to network multiple PC users in their office or
home," said Brian Powers, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Westell CPE
Business Unit. "Because WebShare Pro builds on the Westell WireSpeed modem,
which is noted for its high performance and simple installation, WebShare Pro
is an ideal, consumer-friendly solution for a residential gateway."
New features of the WebShare Pro include an integrated firewall that
protects all PCs on the local area network, Virtual Private Network (VPN)
support via Point-To-Point Protocol (PPTP) for telecommuters who need to tap
into their corporate network from their homes or satellite offices, support of
port forwarding which allows gaming while maintaining security for the rest of
the local network, and True Always On, a feature which memorizes the system's
security password so that it need not be re-entered in the event that the
router powers down for any time.
More than 1 million Westell WireSpeed Ethernet modems have been sold
through major Telcos, RBOCs and ILECs throughout the world. WebShare Pro will
be favored as a residential gateway solution because it allows consumers to
easily download the WebShare Pro software through the Westell Web store, thus
protecting their initial Westell WireSpeed modem investment.
