    ASHEVILLE, N.C., April 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Shareholders of
 Weststar Financial Services Corporation (OTC Bulletin Board:   WFSC) and its
 subsidiary, The Bank of Asheville, held their annual shareholders meeting on
 Tuesday, April 17, 2001 at the Renaissance Asheville Hotel.  The meeting was
 opened with a welcome to shareholders by Chairman Max O. Cogburn, Sr.
 Shareholders heard reports of growth, new product development, enhanced
 delivery systems and predictions for continued market penetration.  Randall C.
 Hall, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, presented a
 financial report reflecting the Corporation's growth in assets "from
 $43.4 million to $70.2 million for the year ended December, 2000."  G. Gordon
 Greenwood, President and CEO, reported "a successful first quarter for the new
 year with a 13% increase in assets to $79.2 million from year end, along with
 pre-tax earnings of $242,900, or a 371% increase over 2000."  In closing,
 Greenwood thanked The Bank of Asheville employees, directors, shareholders and
 customers for their dedication and support.
     A credential committee composed of Randall C. Hall, W. Edward Anderson,
 and Carol L. King, certified that a quorum was present.  There were 633,298
 shares eligible to vote, and 85.5% were present either in person or by proxy.
     Shareholders re-elected the following directors to Weststar Financial
 Services Corporation for three-year terms:  W. Edward Anderson, G. Gordon
 Greenwood, and Darryl J. Hart.
    Following the Annual Meeting, directors met and re-elected officers for The
 Bank of Asheville.  In addition to Greenwood, they are:  Randall C. Hall,
 Executive Vice President and Secretary; Judy Price, Senior Vice President;
 Linda Taylor, Vice President; Kathy E. Fox, Vice President; Marie Bowers,
