Wheelchair Foundation Prepares for Historic Bosnia Delivery

Founder and CEO Ken Behring to Speak to Reporters Just Prior to Departure

From Bay Area

Apr 20, 2001, 01:00 ET from Wheelchair Foundation

SAN FRANCISCO, April 20 /PRNewswire Interactive News Release/ -- Just
before embarking on his historic journey to deliver wheelchairs to needy
residents in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Wheelchair Foundation founder and CEO Kenneth
 E. Behring will hold a press conference to discuss the upcoming trip and its
mission, at the Livermore Airport near San Francisco, on Saturday, April 21,
 at 8:30 a.m. PDT.
The press conference will be held in front of Behring's jet, next to the
Korean Air hanger, at Livermore Airport. Just before and during the press
conference, the last stages of wheelchair loading aboard Behring's plane will
be in progress. Behring will also be available before and after the news
conference at the airport and will accommodate one-on-one media interview
 requests.
"I am eagerly anticipating this trip. All of us associated with the
Wheelchair Foundation are excited about getting over there and doing our
work," said Behring, who will lead the delivery of 270 wheelchairs at
Sarajevo. "But I want to make sure we don't leave here without first giving
our supporters in the U.S. a good look at what their efforts have translated
into. The wheelchairs we will roll onto that plane represent the good will and
heartfelt concern of many, many people who know and understand our work."
Soon after the news conference, Behring will board his private MD-87 jet
(tail number N287KB), along with a number of wheelchairs destined for
Sarajevo, for the 12 hour flight. The wheelchairs will be donated April 24 in
a ceremony at the Zetra Sports Complex in Sarajevo. Many receiving these
wheelchairs were seriously injured during the devastating civil war there in
 the mid-1990s.
The Bosnia trip is the latest in a series that Wheelchairs has sponsored
in its short, nine-month existence. To date, the nonprofit foundation has
delivered more than 25,000 wheelchairs to some 68 countries, including
Vietnam, China, Botswana, Guatemala, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic.
