At The UIC Pavilion

Apr 25, 2001, 01:00 ET from CLK Entertainment

CHICAGO, April 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Generation Freestyle, the first team-
format, action-sport event, will be held Friday, April 27, at the UIC Pavilion
at 7 p.m. Top skateboarders and BMX bikers, such as Colin McKay and Jamie
Bestwick, will be competing as Mix Master Mike of the Beastie Boys mixes music
throughout the event. The 10-time world champion DJ will follow the
competition with a 30-minute solo mix to wrap up the evening.
Three teams of four athletes -- two skateboarders and two BMX bikers --
will join forces to compete in two jam-format street course rounds, two jam-
format vertical ramp rounds and the best new trick competition. Judged on
style, creativity, difficulty, height and landing, the winning team will ride
home with $40,000. Competition judges will include Chicago-area action sports
veterans Shak Wazir, Todd Quarles and Steve Furey.
Generation Freestyle is the first "action sports" event to introduce a
team format, as opposed to individual competition. "As 'extreme sports,' such
as skateboarding, BMX biking and snowboarding become more popular with today's
youth, the sports themselves appear less extreme, and more a part of culture
and lifestyle," said Barry J. Kotler, director of development for CLK
Entertainment, owners and operators of Generation Freestyle. "The team format
aims to give the audience more insight into the drama, strategy, talents and
 personalities of these dynamic athletes."

Top contenders at the event include:*
-- Jamie Bestwick, Vert BMX - Gravity Games gold medalist
     -- Pat Channita, Street Skate - Winner 2000 B3 Street Event, X-Games
