Wherehouse Music Announces New President; Larry Gaines Steps Up From Executive VP of the Music/Video Chain

    TORRANCE, Calif., April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Wherehouse Music announced
 today that Larry Gaines has been promoted to President and Chief Operating
 Officer of the Torrance, CA-based music and home entertainment retailer.
     Gaines previously served as Executive Vice President and COO for the
 national, 497-store chain.  He replaces Hugh Hilton, who will step down from
 his post to return to duties with Alvarez & Marsal, the New York-based
 corporate turnaround firm, as Managing Director of their Southern California
 office.
     Wherehouse Music also announced that Mark Velarde, Executive Vice
 President and Chief Financial Officer, will assume additional responsibilities
 as Chief Administrative Officer of the company.
