CHICAGO, April 16 /PRNewswire/ -- The application supports multiple home
pages, or portals, each of which is customized to meet the specific needs of
user groups. These home pages are linked to a database, which organizes
information objects from multiple sources and a wide range of formats,
including Microsoft Office files, Web addresses, database queries, and other
documents and images. The user can select and view a screen of information by
topic and subject with just two clicks. Each screen is a customized layout of
information, assessments, images and buttons. Buttons on the screen make it
easy for the user to navigate to supporting information sources, jump to
another related topic, or jump to another subject.
Updating and linking the contents of screens to information sources can be
as simple as dragging a hyperlink from a browser window and dropping it on a
Wincite button. Each button can have a dropdown list with as many as 15
 hyperlinks.
Wincite supports live links from many different Web sources. A unique
Wincite feature links a user's search criteria to any number of different
search engines. The user enters a search criteria once and then selects a
search engine button to view the related list of results.
The design features in Version 7 are targeted for business analysts
without a programming background. Using the Wincite screen painter, they can
add, modify, and delete items on a screen. The screen painter capability
enables business units to morph their intelligence application to keep it
current with ever-changing business conditions and needs.
From a technical viewpoint, this release has a very powerful set of
development tools for intranet-based applications. When a new screen is
developed using the Wincite screen painter, the fields in the screen are
dynamically added to the database. This does not require the developer to
change the database tables; the Wincite application automatically adds the
necessary fields to tables in the database. Another important feature of the
system deals with modifying or adding a screen. Those design changes are
automatically reflected in both the LAN and intranet interface screens. Each
new or updated screen is viewable as a new or revised Web page. This enables
Wincite to be a very efficient platform for managing intranet applications
which are supported by the hub database.
