SILICON SLOPES, Utah, Aug. 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Marketers carry a heavy load when it comes to the success of an organization, which often results in a large amount of stress within marketing teams. A survey released today by Workfront, the leading provider of cloud-based Enterprise Work Management solutions, and conducted online by MarketingProfs, found that over 60% of marketers are stressed and 25% said they are "overly stressed," or "stressed to the max."
Correlated to the stress, 80% of marketers said they are overloaded and understaffed when it comes to work they are being asked to do. And over 50% of marketers stated that figuring out how to juggle all this work to get it done in a 40-hour week was one of the top things that made them dread their job the most. Yet even with the stress, an overwhelming percentage are still pleased with their career choice.
"When marketing teams are inundated with work requests, and spending large amounts of time simply trying to keep up with the work-load, stress is bound to happen," said Joe Staples, chief marketing officer of Workfront. "According to the survey, 14% of marketers are using some type of work management solution to help them minimize the stress of work. Although small, that number is growing rapidly. There is light at the end of the tunnel as marketers turn to technology to reduce marketing stress by automating repeatable processes and managing the entire lifecycle of work —from initial work request, to coordination of resources, to final approval."
Some other interesting findings from the Marketers Stress Report include:
- Oh, that was due…yesterday? —Due to delayed approval processes, 36% of marketers stated that their work was late twice a week or more. Interestingly enough, operations and event teams reported the lowest frequency of late work due to delayed approvals, where communications and public relations teams were the highest.
- The sad reality of status meetings and email — A whopping 63% of marketers stated that they received their work requests via email. And despite the shortcomings of email, 32% of marketers said this was how they kept their boss in the loop. Another 42% stated that they kept their boss in the loop with weekly status meetings.
- They just don't understand! — When asked to choose what made them dread their job the most, 55% of marketers said it was having to prove their value to people who didn't understand what they do. Another 42% said people who think they have good ideas (but don't) made them dread their jobs the most.
Despite all the stress marketers are under, there is a silver lining, 84% of marketers state that they do not regret their career choice.
