Worldwide Two-Way SMS A Reality With Wysdom's New InterCarrier Mobyle Gateway; SMS Messages Expected To Surge In North America

Apr 04, 2001, 01:00 ET from Wysdom, Inc.

BOSTON, April 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Wysdom, Inc., a wireless software and
infrastructure company, today announced the launch of the newly expanded
InterCarrier Mobyle Gateway (ICMG), a carrier-side product, which will now
allow SMS enabled users to exchange messages between approximately
300 carriers throughout the world, via wireless pagers, PDAs, and handsets.
ICMG is part of Wysdom's Carrier Suite and will for the first time allow
mobile users to send SMS messages to recipients around the world using just
 their telephone number.
Because it has been difficult, if not impossible, to send inter-carrier
messages in the U.S., adoption of SMS services have been very low. Wireless
subscribers needed to have the recipient's device number, carrier and that
carrier's SMSC or messaging gateway address in order to send inter-carrier
messages. ICMG will benefit carriers by helping them offer easy-to-use
inter-carrier SMS services, which will result in more SMS and voice traffic as
well as a competitive advantage in the form of a new service for users.
"U.S. and Canadian carriers using ICMG will be among the first to roll out
two-way inter-carrier SMS in North America," said Kashif Hassan, CEO and co-
founder of Wysdom Inc. "Overall, ICMG will help SMS in this market catch-up
with the rest of the world by overcoming many of the barriers hampering its
growth. Our vision is to enable all users, on any mobile device, to send text
messages to friends, family and business associates located anywhere in the
 world."
Wysdom's ICMG is based on the Mobyle Application Platform (MAP)
technology. MAP provides the functional elements, plug-ins and telephony
interfaces needed to complete carrier and third-party connectivity. Wysdom's
Mobyle Application Platform takes the data whether that is SMS or other, and
processes, render and then routes it to MAP which passes it to the appropriate
wireless network for transmission to mobile devices.
