PHILADELPHIA, April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- They are the pride and joy of the Delaware Valley, and for one very important hour, they are the focus of a television event. WPVI-TV/6ABC is pleased to present the 19th annual "Best of the Class" program, a salute to the best and brightest students in the region. The one- hour special, and its accompanying series of one-minute vignettes, will be taped Wednesday, May 2nd at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square. Action News anchor Lisa Thomas-Laury will host this year's program, which will air Saturday, June 2nd from 7 to 8 p.m. on Channel 6. The vignettes will run throughout the day during the month of June. "You only have to spend a short time with these students to recognize what a bright future we have ahead of us in the Delaware Valley," said WPVI-TV President and General Manager Dave Davis. "We consider it our privilege to be able to introduce these young people to our viewers." The "Best of the Class" students are selected by their schools, which include public, private and parochial high schools throughout the tri-state region. The program is part of 6-ABC's "Children First" initiative, a year- round effort to bring awareness to the challenges and opportunities for children in the Delaware Valley. Sponsors of the program and vignettes are Wyeth Lederle Vaccines, du Pont Hospital for Children and Sovereign Bank.
