Custom Course Materials Provider

Apr 23, 2001, 01:00 ET from XanEdu

ANN ARBOR, Mich., April 23 /PRNewswire Interactive News Release/ --
XanEdu, a division of Bell and Howell Information and Learning (NYSE: BHW),
today announced the acquisition of the collegiate copyright and print
CoursePack service, Campus Custom Publishing (CCP). CCP's established history
in copyright-compliant print packs provides XanEdu a complete solution to
copyright compliance, with both online and in print course materials for
 higher education institutions.
The acquisition of CCP will strengthen several facets of XanEdu's current
business. CCP's existing relationships with more than 1,100 colleges and
universities nationwide will open doors for XanEdu to expand its innovative
digital CoursePacks products online or in print. XanEdu will also adopt CCP's
streamlined copyrighting capabilities, which will accelerate the timeframe in
which copyrighted materials can be incorporated into XanEdu products. Finally,
XanEdu will add into its archive additional copyrighted content derived from
 CCP's customer base.
"By combining CCP and XanEdu's resources, we can fulfill the curriculum
and course content needs of faculty and students at colleges and universities
both on and offline," said XanEdu's general manager Lew Gossage. "These new
capabilities strengthen our presence in this rapidly growing market."
Establishing an offline presence in college campus bookstores across the
country will give XanEdu access to university audiences not yet reached
through their online services. By embedding the XanEdu(TM) ReSearch Engine in
the PrintPacks products, offline users will have access to related
supplemental materials online. As faculty members begin their search for
course materials, XanEdu can be their one-stop shop for both digital and
print-based course materials. Campus booksellers who work with their local
faculty to produce course packs will now have a turnkey source for copyright
clearance, production and manufacturing of course packs, and digital online
versions and/or supplements to the course packs.
"We are looking forward to working with XanEdu in this new venture," said
CCP's President David Binnix. "Our combined expertise will forge a unique and
powerful standard for combining digital and traditional content."
Students can anticipate finding XanEdu(TM) PrintPacks in campus bookstores
beginning with Summer and Fall 2001 terms.
