YHA - Britain's Best Travel Value Is Open For Travelers

Apr 19, 2001, 01:00 ET from Youth Hostels Association

OTTAWA, April 19 /PRNewswire/ - As the largest provider of inexpensive
and comfortable traveler's accommodation in England and Wales, YHA (Youth
Hostels Association) is ready to welcome visitors from America this spring.
With more than half of their 230 hostel locations presently open (and more
scheduled to reopen in May), YHA provides an excellent network to plan a great
 trip around Britain.
While the recent outbreak of Foot-and-Mouth Disease has curtailed travel
within parts of the countryside, there are no restrictions for travel into
London or any other major city in Britain. Even the initial closures and
travel restrictions in the rural areas are beginning to be lifted. More than
80% of all attractions and 90% of all scheduled events are currently open to
travelers and the situation is improving daily throughout the country. It is
also important to note that Foot-and-Mouth Disease poses absolutely no health
 risk to humans.
The YHA accommodates thousands of American visitors each year. From
modern facilities in major cities like London and Manchester to historic manor
houses and castles in numerous towns and throughout the countryside, each
hostel is unique. There are 7 hostels in London alone - all close to trendy
open markets, restaurants, theaters and historic sites.
Reservations for YHA hostels can be made in advance, before leaving the
US, or along the way while traveling. While not mandatory, reservations are
recommended - especially during peak travel times.
YHA is an affiliate of Hostelling International (HI) and part of its
Assured Standards program. An HI membership is required to stay at YHA hostels
and is available for $25 through Hostelling International - American Youth
Hostels or at any student travel specialist.
