Apr 30, 2001, 01:00 ET from ZANTAZ, Inc.

NEW YORK and PARIS, April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- In a major international
collaboration between a pioneer in online Smart Storage Solutions(TM) and one
of Europe's leading financial and business development institutions, ZANTAZ,
Inc. and Caisse des Depots Group (CDC) today announced the formation of a new
Paris-based joint venture company that will offer ZANTAZ' low cost storage and
archiving services to leading corporations in France. This is the first joint
venture between CDC and a U.S. company. The new company, called CDC ZANTAZ,
was formed in response to the significant international demand for storage
solutions that help companies efficiently manage the explosive growth of
email, attached documents and other electronic messages. Financial details of
the joint venture were not disclosed.
CDC ZANTAZ, which plans to begin operations by this summer, will offer the
ZANTAZ Digital Safe(TM) -- a highly secure, outsourced service that provides
low cost, instantaneous retrieval of business critical electronic messages and
documents -- to a broad range of potential customers in France. CDC ZANTAZ has
already begun reaching out to prospective customers in France and expects to
announce a number of customers later this year.
Both ZANTAZ and CDC will have significant stakes in the new joint venture.
Based in California's Silicon Valley, ZANTAZ provides a Web-based service that
enables companies to capture, archive and instantly retrieve electronic
messages and attachments, thereby helping customers to increase efficiency and
productivity, while substantially lowering costs. CDC, which was founded in
1816, is one of the largest financial institutions in France, whose charter is
to safeguard private deposits that require a high degree of protection, and to
advance the country's social and economic development. CDC Kineon, the
business incubator and accelerator arm of CDC, is taking the lead in managing
CDC's investment in the joint venture.
"ZANTAZ is proud to be partnering with CDC, one of the world's most
prestigious financial institutions, to extend our Smart Storage Solutions to
major customers in France," said Steve King, president and CEO of ZANTAZ, Inc.
"Our joint venture with CDC and CDC Kineon, builds on our already strong
growth and momentum, and clearly validates ZANTAZ' technology and business
model. CDC ZANTAZ is the first key step in our international expansion
strategy, and we expect it to be a powerful catalyst for ZANTAZ' continued
 success in the future."
"At CDC, we understand the need for securely storing critical financial
data, and the importance of innovative technologies to drive business
advantage," said Daniel Lebegue, CEO of Caisse des Depots Group. "By
partnering with ZANTAZ, we will be able to offer French corporations a smarter
storage solution that not only provides the highest level of security, but
also enables instantaneous retrieval of critical electronic documents, at a
low cost. We anticipate strong demand for the ZANTAZ solution, because it
fills a clear need in the French market."
"The ZANTAZ technology and outsourced service model fill a need for an
electronic messaging storage solution that is both efficient and low cost,"
said William Hurley, Program Manager, E-Networks and Broadband Access, Yankee
Group. "The new CDC ZANTAZ joint venture is evidence of the current demand and
global growth potential for this new storage and archiving solution."
