IC Specialist in HD Convergence Selected for Innovative Transcoder Design

CUPERTINO, Calif., May 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Zenverge, a developer of advanced media ICs, announced today that it has been named a finalist in the "Red Herring 100 North America" award, a prestigious list honoring the year's most promising private technology companies in North America. Selected from a pool of over 1200 entries, 200 finalists were chosen based on both quantitative and qualitative criteria, including financial performance, technology innovation, quality of management, execution of strategy and integration into their respective industries.

Zenverge was selected by the Red Herring editorial team for its revolutionary innovation in the area of High Definition (HD) convergence. In December, the company announced the Zenverge Entertainment Nexus, a major advance in media IC design capable of supporting extremely high speed transcoding, encoding and decoding of multiple streams of HD content.

"The next major step forward in the digital consumer lifestyle will be seamless sharing of HD content across all connected digital media devices and services including smart phones, Portable Media Players (PMPs), HDTVs, DVRs and Internet TV," explained Amir Mobini, Chief Executive Officer of Zenverge. "But reaching that goal using today's media ICs is extremely challenging. By combining the needed media transcoding, security and networking capabilities for multiple HD sources in a single cost-effective chip, our unique architecture promises to accelerate HD convergence and open up a host of exciting new applications."

Promising Future

For over a decade the Red Herring 100 North America award has helped identify the top 100 privately-held technology companies headquartered in North America based upon their unique combination of technological innovation, management strength, market size, investor record, customer acquisition, and financial health. During the several months leading up to this year's announcement, hundreds of companies in the telecom, communications, security, web 2.0, software, hardware, biotech and clean tech industries sent in submissions to compete for the award.

"This year was especially challenging," noted Alex Vieux, Publisher and CEO of Red Herring. "There were so many companies producing such innovative and amazing products that we had a difficult time narrowing the field down to 200. Now we're faced with the arduous task of selecting the final 100."

The CEOs of the final 200 companies are invited to present their winning strategies at the Red Herring Conference in San Diego where the Red Herring 100 will be announced.
