PHOENIX, Aug. 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Notorious British preacher Anjem Choudary has been charged with inviting support for ISIS militants. He has been an outspoken supporter of radical Islam for a decade and police say he has links with dozens of terrorists. He and Mohammed Mizanur Rahman are due to appear in court today after being arrested in September 2014 on suspicion of encouraging people to join or donate to ISIS.
Zuhdi Jasser, President of the influential American Islamic Forum for Democracy, responded by saying, "As the Crown Prosecution Service of the United Kingdom finally has its day in court starting today against Anjem Choudary, we at the American Islamic Forum for Democracy hope and pray that he expeditiously be found guilty for his crimes of proscription in the Islamic State and for aiding and abetting ISIS- an enemy of the UK and the United States of America. Under his cowardly protection of free speech Mr. Choudary has actively encouraged sympathy for the militants of the Islamic state."
"Free speech is not a suicide pact for free societies like the UK. I have had the displeasure of confronting him directly as recently as last week in one of his notoriously uninhibited and grotesque media appearances where he unapologetically declared Muslims like me apostates- a charge which he knows all too well would invoke a death sentence under ISIS' ideology or in Islamic Republics like Iran or Saudi Arabia. As evidenced by his unapologetic justification of the murder of Fusilier Lee Rigby, it is long overdue to put away Mr. Anjem Choudary for as long time as possible as a traitor to the UK and as an example of what happens to Islamists who openly call for and sympathize in acts of war against the UK or the United States," said Jasser.
