CodeGreen Solutions Hosting Energy Audit and San Francisco Existing Commercial Buildings Ordinance Seminar with BOMA SF and PG&E
SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 7, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- On August 13, 2012, CodeGreen Solutions will partner with PG&E, BOMA SF, and the San Francisco Department of Environment to present a seminar on how to comply with the new energy performance laws for existing buildings throughout San Francisco. The seminar will include a discussion detailing the ordinance's requirements, how to comply, and expected costs associated with compliance. The seminar's panel of experts will discuss how building owners can benefit by not only complying with this local law, but also reducing energy consumption in their buildings.
Buildings use over two thirds of the electricity and emit over 50% of the greenhouse gases in San Francisco. Building energy audits are the first step towards identifying significant energy conservation measures. San Francisco mayor Edwin Lee has previously said that "San Francisco needs to increase the energy and resource efficiency of existing buildings if we are going to meet our aggressive greenhouse gas reduction targets."
CodeGreen's Christopher Cayten and Jessica Handy will focus on industry best practices in performing energy audits, and ways to avoid common pitfalls that not only reduce the effectiveness of an audit, but also may hinder compliance efforts. The discussion will also include a presentation by Rich Chien of the San Francisco Department of Environment.
Passed in February 2011, the Existing Commercial Buildings Energy Performance Ordinance requires owners of commercial buildings greater than 10,000 square feet to perform Energy Star Benchmarking annually and energy audits every 5 years. The ordinance builds upon the success of energy audits already conducted for many local businesses. "We expect this Ordinance will deliver similar returns with existing buildings, which could lead to a 50 percent reduction in commercial building energy use within 20 years," said Melanie Nutter, Director of San Francisco Environment (see www.sfenvironment.org).
The "What is an ASHRAE Audit?: How to Comply with the Existing Commercial Building Energy Performance Ordinance" seminar will be held on Monday, August 13th at the Pacific Energy Center (851 Howard St. between 4th and 5th Streets, San Francisco, CA) from 9 am to 11 am. This seminar is co-hosted by CodeGreen Solutions, BOMA SF, and PG&E and offered to interested participants at no charge.
