Super Bowl LVII Mission to End Student Hunger Expands to Gilbert Public Schools

ISA Foundation and Former Arizona Cardinal Frank Sanders Team Up with GENYOUth and Other Partners to Launch Next Phase of Mission 57 to Tackle Youth Food Insecurity in Arizona

GILBERT, Ariz., Oct. 19, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- Building on its commitment to address student food insecurity in Arizona, GENYOUth, the national non-profit organization that creates healthier school communities, announced today the expansion of its Super Bowl LVII Mission 57: End Student Hunger community initiative. With the support of its partners, the Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee and Dairy Council^® of Arizona, as well as purpose-driven corporate sponsors including the ISA Foundation, BHHS Legacy Foundation, Frito-Lay North America, Fry's Food Stores, the PepsiCo Foundation, and The Quaker Oats Company, Mission 57 is equipping schools throughout Arizona's high need communities with critical equipment and resources to help end student hunger.

Over 500 students at Harris Elementary School helped celebrate ISA Foundation's donation of 11 Grab and Go meal equipment packages to Gilbert Public Schools, and greeted former Arizona Cardinal and NFL Legend, Frank Sanders; Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee Mascot, Spike and dairy farmer Mascot, Daisy the Cow; and school district and government officials, including Gilbert Mayor Brigette Peterson and other community leaders. The donation to Arizona's seventh largest school district – which included breakfast/meal carts, milk coolers, and NFL FLAG-In-Schools kits – is part of Mission 57's larger commitment to promote access for over 31,000 Arizona students to over 8.5 million school meals through the delivery of 57 school meal equipment packages to Arizona schools in the months leading up to the Super Bowl.

"With Arizona ranking in the bottom half of all states in school breakfast participation¹, it is critical to increase access to and participation in school meals. Since introducing the Grab and Go meal equipment program to schools in 2017, we have seen growth in average daily school meal participation by as much as 27 percent! That is a huge number, and it is why, with the help of generous supporters like ISA Foundation, we are donating school feeding equipment and resources to high need schools like Harris Elementary, where 74% of students qualify for free or reduced meals²," said Karen Kafer, R.D., Chief Wellness Officer of GENYOUth.

After launching Mission 57: End Student Hunger in Glendale Elementary School District in September, GENYOUth, with the support of corporate sponsors, is embarking on a multi-month drive to provide Arizona schools with grants for meal equipment packages that will increase access to and participation in nutritious school breakfast and throughout the school day. Kafer said, "Mission 57 is not a one and done. Youth food insecurity needs to be addressed in high need schools and after donating 22 Grab and Go meal equipment systems in Glendale and Gilbert, we are just getting started.
