BEMIDJI, Minnesota, April 5, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Salolampi Finnish Language Village is searching for summer camp teachers and counselors who can speak fluent Finnish and communicative English to join us this summer in beautiful Bemidji, Minnesota.

Responsibilities include designing and implementing Finnish language lessons and managing a variety of camp activities, where instructors can use their own creativity to engage students in learning.  Teaching can happen, for example, when baking, making crafts, playing ball games, enjoying the sauna, or joining the children for singing around the Midsummer bonfire.

This unique camp is supported by the Concordia Language Villages, Finlandia Foundation National and Salolampi Foundation, non-profit organizations dedicated to supporting Finnish language and culture in the United States. Salolampi aims to "transport" American students to the country of Finland by providing a completely immersive experience. The lakeside location features traditional Finnish architecture to recreate an authentic Finnish village. It is a special place in the United States, where camp instructors speak fluent Finnish, and children, who are called "villagers," participate in Finnish language classes and activities daily. In addition, a full range of delicious and traditional Finnish meals are served.

The employment offer includes 6 weeks beginning in June and ending the middle of July. Tasks are well suited for students or teachers interested in an international experience over the summer. Instructors will receive competitive stipends, as well as room and board.

"We are proud to promote the work of Salolampi to raise awareness for Finnish language, culture, and heritage in the United States," said the Ambassador of Finland to the United States Kirsti Kauppi. "Working with Salolampi is an excellent way to garner international experience, while raising awareness for Finland among our next generation of global citizens."
