In quanto luogo di nascita degli aquiloni, Weifang ha ospitato il primo festival internazionale degli aquiloni nel 1984 e vanta la reputazione di Capitale degli aquiloni.

Oltre ad ospitare numerosi siti naturali e storici, Weifang è anche la sede di Weichai, il principale conglomerato cinese specializzato nella progettazione, produzione e vendita di motori diesel.
