- Nokia Location & Commerce also to handle global map update distribution

CHICAGO, Sept. 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Nokia today announced that its Location & Commerce business is not only supplying NAVTEQ® Maps for Pioneer aftermarket navigation systems, but also handling the associated North American and European map update distribution for Pioneer. This major aftermarket brand joins a recent stream of leading OEMs choosing to offer drivers a superior navigation experience through automotive grade, high precision NAVTEQ® Map data.

With content at its heart, the Nokia Location Platform is a comprehensive 'Where Ecosystem' designed to help a cross section of industry customers develop premium location based applications. Part of the services portfolio focuses on support ranging from project management and marketing to logistics, ecommerce - and complete consumer care. The map update programme for Pioneer will include sales and product support, distribution as well as returns handling.

"As a technology innovator we always strive to closely engage with our consumers and Nokia Location & Commerce is providing valuable support in this area. As well as handling distribution of the map updates, they actively support our product development, with experts available to answer questions about the map database and content - including changes and additions since the previous update.  24/7 help is also available via a NAVTEQ® Map webstore," commented Yutaka Sato, General Manager, Car Electronics Business Management Group, Pioneer Corporation.

Pioneer is working to expand the frontiers of in-car entertainment by fusing audiovisual entertainment and car navigation systems using the latest technological innovations. These efforts are guided by the principle of always proposing new value – such as the NAVTEQ® Map - to consumers.

"Powering over 24 million in-vehicle navigation systems around the world, our location content is typically the preferred choice of the automotive sector. Drivers of Pioneer aftermarket systems can now also benefit not only from accurate and precise data but also our map update support programme," added Bruno Bourguet, Sales Vice President, Nokia Location & Commerce. "Our aim is to provide all customers, irrespective of platform or device, with the cutting edge products and services they need to succeed in a very competitive market."

Nokia will be exhibiting at the Mondial de l'Automobile show in Paris at Hall 3, booth #213

Nokia Location & Commerce demonstrates its 'location' leadership in the global automotive space via numerous OEM collaborations and comprehensive partner demonstrations at Mondial de l'Automobile. Delivering on the needs of the ever-connected consumer has long been a focus of the in-vehicle industry. The ability of Nokia L&C to serve the expectations of today's 'connected driver' via fluid location-based products and services whether at home, walking in the city or in the car will be on full display and showcased to show how both customers and consumers alike benefit from smarter data and multi-screen, multi-modal choices.
