Aindra Systems Gets Backing by Villgro, the Social Enterprise Incubator
BANGALORE, September 11, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
Aindra Systems, an early-stage startup, has secured backing by Villgro, the Social Enterprise Incubator focused on funding startups having a social impact. Villgro is associated with The Rockefeller Foundation, The Lemelson Foundation, Citi Foundation among others. Aindra Systems, founded in late 2012 by Adarsh Natarajan, an IIM Bangalore graduate, is developing an affordable device that can be deployed in resource-constrained settings to assist with screening and detection of cervical cancer. Aindra Systems is collaborating with Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology and IIT Mandi to build the device.
The genesis of Aindra Systems was when they were presented with a unique challenge of automating the hitherto manual and time consuming student attendance and then digitizing this data. Aindra built an artificial intelligence-based solution involving computer vision to capture and automate student attendance data and push the digitised data to the School Management System. This product that can be deployed on smartphones and tablets, uses Face Recognition to identify students and is generating a lot of interest in markets outside of India as well.
Micro Finance Institutions (MFI's) are adopting Financial Risk management policies that require them to verify the identity of their borrowers during disbursal and regular collections. The Mobile Visual Identification System (MVIS) platform, a patent pending technology developed by Aindra Systems helps the Micro Finance Institutions and other financial institutes verify the borrowers during disbursements and collections. It is also being used to track and monitor a MFI's on-field employees. This unique and novel product is installed on low cost touch-phones and tablets that the on-field officers carry. Various financial institutions in India are currently conducting pilots of the SAAS-based, hardware-agnostic, cloud-based solution that has zero capital expenditure and does not require dedicated hardware installation.
The ability to use computer vision and artificial intelligence to solve interesting problems inspired Aindra to look for bigger problems that they could help solve. This led to our pursuit of using technology to automate the screening of Cervical Cancer using computer vision and artificial intelligence.
