Celebrating the benchmark of crossing over 300 donations, DATRI, India's leading Blood Stem Cell Donors Registry, felicitated its proud donors from Maharashtra. The honoured chief guests Ms. Amber Bernachi, Miss Eco International 2017 and Mr. Darasing Khurana, Mr. RuBaRu India International 2017 and Brand Ambassador of DATRI, graced the occasion with their presence.

It was a proud moment for the NGO, having facilitated till date 313 donations, the highest ever in the country. Since 2009, the NGO has been relentlessly working towards saving lives of patients suffering from Blood Cancer and Thalassemia.
Present on the occasion, Dr. Niranjan N Rathod, Associate Director & Head of Department, Haemato-Oncology & Bone Marrow Transplant, Nanavati Super Speciality Hospital said, "We have a huge number of patients suffering from fatal blood disorders like Blood Cancer and Thalassemia Major for whom the last resort is a Blood Stem Cell transplant. For patients who could not find a match within their family there was no hope. It is only with help of registries like DATRI that there is a ray of hope for such patients. In the last eight years DATRI has worked towards spreading awareness on Blood Stem Cell Donations through numerous camps held across educational institutions, corporates and residential areas. As a result, there has been a considerable rise in the awareness levels among youngsters and professionals.

Today, though DATRI has over 2,90,000 registered volunteer donors, still there is a need to raise awareness on the importance of Blood Stem Cell Donation and increase the donor pool.
There are over 1500+ patients registered with DATRI who are waiting for an unrelated matched donor. A patient has only a 25% chance of finding a matched donor from within his/her family. With a '1 in 10000' to '1 in over a million' chance of finding an unrelated HLA genetically matched donor, DATRI needs more volunteer donors to sign up with registries like DATRI.

DATRI is a not-for-profit organization co-founded by Mr. Raghu Rajagopal, Dr. Nezih Cereb and Dr. Soo Young Yang in 2009. The vision of the organization is to find a willing matched donor for every patient suffering from fatal blood-related disorders and in need of a blood stem cell transplant.
