Education Institutions Need to Bridge Talent Gap in Creative Skillsets: Adobe Research
NEW DELHI, November 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
Adobe India today announced the findings of its Creative Skillsets Survey conducted on Naukri.com. This first-of-its-kind survey by Adobe reveals a gap between creative job opportunities and the corresponding digital and creative skillsets available in the industry.
The survey reveals that 50% of hiring managers and recruitment heads take up to a month, and 25% take up to 2 months, to close an entry level creative job position. This suggests that even though there are opportunities available in the creative field, there is a dearth of candidates with the required skillsets.
The essential skillsets range across some specific areas: the highest proportion of respondents (65%) feel that digital imaging product skills are essential in a designer or developer job seeker, followed by desktop design and publishing product skills (53%); web development product skills (37%); video editing and production skills (35%); and mobile and app development skills (28%).
"Research shows that companies that foster creativity achieve exceptional revenue growth as compared to peers, enjoy greater market share and competitive leadership and win recognition as the best places to work. However, while there is an increasing demand for these skills in the market, the right talent pool is unavailable to seize such opportunities. The time is now for educational institutions to take steps to address this issue by including creative skill development in study curriculum to meet the changing need of businesses today," said Umang Bedi, Managing Director, South Asia, Adobe.
The survey also shows that 54% of companies need to invest in providing cross functional training to upgrade employee skills to overcome talent scarcity in these fields and 41% need to invest in enhanced benefits, flexible work arrangements or increased starting salaries.
Demand for Adobe creative skillsets
Within the required skillsets, Adobe is considered as an industry benchmark by hiring managers and recruitment heads. 75% of them peg the demand for Adobe creative skillset as high or very high. 70% value certifications on Adobe creative products while evaluating candidates and 88% believe that this requirement will only increase in the coming years.
Adobe Creative Skillset Survey
The Adobe Creative Skillset survey was conducted among 250 hiring managers and recruitment managers from various industries including IT/ITES/BPO, Design, Creative/Marketing Agency, Publishing/Print, Advertising Firms, Media House. 60% of the respondents are from small and medium business enterprises, while 40% of them are from large enterprises.
