European Winner of Angostura Global Cocktail Challenge 2017-2018

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad and Tobago, Sept. 26, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Pedro Martinez, Co-owner and Bar Tender of the Bluebird Bar in Paris, has won the European Regional Final of the Angostura Global Cocktail Challenge 2018 competing against a highly talented field of Bar Tenders who each had won their own National or Sub-regional finals to take their place at the European event.

Held on the impressive aft deck of the Yacht Club of Greece in Athens on Monday evening (18 September 2017), overlooking the historic military port of ancient Athens and the Saronic Gulf, Pedro's winning Rum Cocktail – the "Jumbled Jamboree" and winning Amaro Cocktail - the "Runaway Toast" impressed the acclaimed Judging panel to take home the European title. Pedro's prize sees him take the winning ticket to represent Europe at the Global Finals which will be held in Trinidad and Tobago on 11 February 2018, just ahead of Carnival. As part of the prize, Pedro will also join the select team of Angostura's Brand Ambassadors at Bar Convent Berlin in early October, where guest bar tending shifts are being run on the stand there.
The event was organised by Angostura's local Distribution partner Beverage World with support of wider Agency partner for EMEAA, Artisan Spirits which brought together seven winning Bar Tenders who had each won Sub-Regional finals in the Nordics& Baltics, Eastern Europe, Central Europe and national finals from France, Greece, Spain and Russia.
Pedro Martinez's experience includes being Head Bar Tender at the respected Moonshiner Bar in Paris before becoming Co-owner and Bar Tender and the Bluebird Bar in Paris - recently voted by Timeout as one of the coolest Parisian bar openings of 2017 so far.
The road to the European Finals this week, saw Bar Tenders from over 20 European markets participate, all submitting their initial applications On-line before being judged on-line and at live events – a new evolution of the bi-annual event. Next up sees the Middle East Regional Finals take place in Cape Town on 23 October and the Asian Regional Finals the week later, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
