BANGALORE, January 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
With a Total Prize Money of 12 Lakhs, the Contest saw a 54% Increase in Participation From Various Colleges Over the Last Season
Mu Sigma, a category defining company in the decision sciences industry and big data space, today announced the winners of its second edition of MuPhoria. The contest designed for final and pre-final year engineering students across India provides an opportunity to innovate by using first principles thinking and integrating the multi-disciplinary fields of math, business and technology.
The 6-month long contest gives the next-gen data analysts a hands-on exposure to real-world business problems. The twist to this edition of MuPhoria was in allowing participants to employ any advanced analytical tool or technique to arrive at the solution, and not just programming/coding.
The contest witnessed over 2000 student registrations from 317 engineering colleges across the country from diverse engineering background. A panel from Mu Sigma evaluated the results based on the final solution submitted and on factors such as creativity, thoroughness of the approach and the quality of work.
The winners were published every month and each winner was awarded prize money of Rs. 2 Lakhs and an opportunity to interview with Mu Sigma. Upon selection and joining, the offered candidates are eligible for a one-time sign-on bonus of Rs. 3 Lakhs, subject to completion of three months with the organization.
On the occasion, Ambiga Dhiraj, Head of Client Services and Delivery, Mu Sigma said, "The growing popularity of data analytics and the dearth of analytical talent―the data scientists―who have a knack for problem-solving and who are able to cull meaningful insights from such huge data sets have been in talks for a while. However, it is not only about data sciences but also about decision sciences and enabling better decisions. We feel that dearth of Decision Scientists is a bigger industry problem; they help companies not just with creating but also consuming the analytics.
Through MuPhoria, Mu Sigma aims to challenge and inspire students to align themselves with the industry requirements and pursue a career as a Decision Scientist. This contest provides the flavour of the complex business problems Mu Sigma solves on a day to day basis. It also testifies Mu Sigma's commitment in identifying and nurturing decision scientists."
Over two seasons, the contest has evolved from a programming contest to a problem-solving contest.
