Effective August 5, he replaced Sureish Nathan, who had led CCL's operations in the region since 2009 and oversaw the opening of CCL's Shanghai office in January 2013.

As the lead researcher on the groundbreaking, global Senior Executive Research Initiative, Smith has developed extensive contacts with top leaders throughout Asia-Pacific and identified best practices for individual and organizational leadership success in the region. He has also led CCL's research on global talent sustainability.

Additionally, Smith has taught in CCL's Leadership at the Peak program for top-level executives, worked with major corporate clients on Custom leadership engagements, served as an executive and organizational coach and led CCL's legal sector practice.

Smith holds a Ph.D. in adult education with an emphasis on organizational learning from the University of Idaho and an M.A. in instructional/performance technology from Boise State University. His undergraduate degree is in finance.

Prior to joining CCL, Smith was the co-founder and president of a consulting firm focused on organizational performance and talent management. He has also served as the president of a human capital consulting firm.

In his new role, Smith will direct CCL's rapidly expanding presence in the Asia-Pacific region. In addition to the Shanghai office, CCL also has locations in Singapore and New Delhi-NCR, India.

"Roland's knowledge of leadership development is vast, and the Asia-Pacific region has been a focal point of his pioneering research and work with clients," said CCL President and CEO John R. Ryan. "We believe his global expertise and passion for driving results will be of tremendous value to leaders and organizations throughout this dynamic and growing region." Mr. John R. Ryan added.

"Tremendous growth in the Asia-Pacific region has greatly increased demand for wise managers and leaders, especially in these times of global complexity and change," Smith said. "CCL has been privileged to partner with and learn from many leading organizations across the region, and together we have created sustained impact. We look forward to helping many more clients expand their capacity for strategic leadership, talent development and innovation," concluded Smith.
