Now in its 8th year, ACMOMS VIII was held jointly with SKIMS (Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences) in Srinagar. This conference was held from 4th to 7th June 2015, making it the first medical & surgical research conference to be held in the city to deliberate critical health issues of 'DIABESITY ', the twin dangers arising due to Obesity & Diabetes, and its management by Bariatric surgery.
The event was inaugurated by the Honourable Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir and attended by distinguished surgeons and academicians from over 20 countries including USA, Netherland, Germany, Belgium, Austria, Australia, Brazil, Middle East, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Chile, Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Singapore, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Thailand, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia. The conference schedule included a live surgical workshop to train young surgeons from India and Asia at SKIMS. Surgeries including the single incision sleeve gastrectomy, and the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass were demonstrated by surgeons from different participating countries. The 2-day summit held on the 6th & 7th of June was an academic fiesta that saw surgeons, endocrinologists and academicians debate and deliberate on the 'Controversies in Bariatric Surgery'. A free paper session was also held during this summit, which gave young surgeons a platform to showcase their research.
The ACMOMS summit hosted annually by CODS has established itself as a niche and coveted platform for drawing world's top-notch surgeons.
Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala is a highly acclaimed, internationally renowned and eminent surgeon. He is the Chairman of the Institute of Minimal Access Surgical Sciences at Saifee Hospital in Mumbai.
