Arya Rajam's 'Blood, Sweat and Tears': a Poignant and Riveting Read
CHENNAI, February 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
Arya Rajam is one of Chennai's most sensitive writers of her generation whose book, 'Blood, Sweat and Tears', has touched the hearts of many a reader. This book was a labor of love that began when Arya was merely 24 years old and reflects the introspection she has undertaken to produce such work. Arya has taken a leaf out of her own life in rendering the story of Zaria, the protagonist in the novel. Arya's travels and multicultural upbringing have lent a great deal of authenticity to Zaria's character, which is of an aspiring dancer who is of half Indian and half Russian descent.
One of Arya's biggest influences is Anita Ratnam, her mother, the dancer extraordinaire, who is a legend in the Arts across the world. Growing up in this environment, Arya has lent a great deal of authenticity to the Zaria's character.
Arya's current pursuit is to tour schools across the nation to encourage students to read and write stories and poetry, which encourages them to consider a career in the world of literature. In an era of film and imagery, Arya brings back the beauty of the written word to a younger generation. She will be conducting book readings at various events, as well as writing exercises at educational institutions. Arya quotes, "Writing has always been a passion, and with Zaria's story, it's become a purpose." Prominent writer Naomi Wolf commented, "A compelling writer, a bright new talent."
Kirthi Jayakumar, prominent lawyer and social activist in Chennai, raves, "I read 'Blood, Sweat and Tears' in four hours flat, without putting the book down even once. A riveting and fantastic read to say the least, the story of Zaria Krishnan's fantastic ambition and her courage to see it through till the end, when it is achieved, is a stupendously inspiring story. What I liked best was Arya's writing: a mellifluous melange of emotions and words came together, painting a vivid picture that comes alive in the reader's mind."
