David Breashears Highlight of Sold Out STAR Global Conference 2014
- CD-adapco's STAR Global Conference was held in Vienna, Austria this year.
NEW YORK and LONDON, March 27, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The theme of CD-adapco's STAR Global Conference 2014 was "Simulating Systems." During his welcome speech, CD-adapco's President, Steve MacDonald said, "It wasn't very long ago, when we struggled to fill a single room, and all of the presentations were from CD-adapco staff. This year, we have a 3-day conference, spread across six parallel tracks, with over 130 presentations from all corners of industry."

This expansion of the conference mirrors the growth of CD-adapco itself. MacDonald predicted that by the end of FY2014, CD-adapco will be a $200m company. Although CD-adapco consistently delivers a profit, the strategy thus far has always been to plough that money back into the development of its software products, in particular our flagship simulation tool STAR-CCM+. MacDonald revealed that during the next 12 months, a significant portion of that development resource will be dedicated to adding a Finite Element capability to the existing Finite Volume solver in STAR-CCM+. "This will allow CD-adapco to deploy our software across entire organizations, no matter how large, and meet all of their simulation needs with a single tool," said MacDonald.
David Breashears, climber, adventurer and filmmaker, was the Keynote Speaker at the conference. His riveting presentation spoke about driving success through teamwork and the importance of leadership, resource management and tool selection to overcome the greatest obstacles. Attendees were able to understand the life and death importance of accounting for variability "slack" in the design of a critical mission.
The STAR Global Conference was also the official release event for STAR-CCM+ v9, the latest, greatest, version of CD-adapco's flagship simulation tool. Jean-Claude Ercolanelli, Senior VP Product Management, closed his presentation with a roadmap looking forward to the coming year of CD-adapco's product development which included a sneak preview of the Finite Element capability MacDonald had announced earlier.
Attendees learned firsthand from experts in a number of STAR-CCM+ training courses and were equipped with a wealth of hints and tricks to make their own CAE process more effective.

The STAR Global Conference 2015 is set to take place in San Diego, California next March.
