Delhi Politics Heats up as Dr. Udit Raj Kicks off Aarakshan Bachao Rath Yatra
NEW DELHI, November 8, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --
Dr. Udit Raj, Chairman, All India Parisangh which is the country's largest confederation of SC/ST organizations, has set his sight to bring in a big change in social composition in Delhi and resultantly it will have big repercussions in the political landscape of the country. The main aim is to secure 'Reservation in Promotion and Private Sector' through his 'Aarakshan Bachao Rath Yatra' which was launched on November 1, 2016. The Aarakshan Bachao Rath Yatra has been doing rounds in all parts of Delhi and has seen garnering major support from the scheduled castes and Dalits in Delhi and UP.
During the Rath Yatra, Dr. Udit Raj said that atrocities against Dalits were rising and that no attempt to dilute the law now would be tolerated. He reiterated, "We are against reservation on economic criteria. The upper castes have always grabbed all the privileges; now they should make a few sacrifices."
Dr. Udit Raj chairs the All India Parisangh with a vision to end all atrocities against Dalits in the country, wants reservation in the promotion and private sector, regularization of all contract workers, caste certificates issued by one state being valid throughout the country, equal education etc. A Bill providing for this, brought in by the UPA government and passed by the Rajya Sabha, has lapsed.
Raj also wants a law to force the government to implement Dalit reservations in the National Cricket Team and setup a Dalit Regiment in the Armed Forces. The Bill for reservation in promotion was to be passed by the Parliament - which has lapsed and he has taken on his agenda to start off a revolution to get this Act passed.
About All India Parisangh:
The All India Parisangh, under the leadership of Dr. Udit Raj, was formed in 1997 to fight against 5 anti-reservation orders, and they began to fight through rallies, agitations, etc. The rally organised by the Parisangh on 11th December 2000 at Ramlila Maidan, New Delhi was one of the largest in the history of independent India; this built pressure on the Government. The 81st, 82nd and 85th Constitutional Amendments were passed and reservation was saved.
The All India Parisangh has been the strongest voice of scheduled castes and tribes. Under his leadership, lakhs of Dalits became Buddhists on November 4, 2001 following the footsteps of Dr. Ambedkar. Spreading Buddhism means strengthening the cause of the nation as Buddhism does not believe in caste and gender separation.
The problems faced by Dalits, tribals and backwards, are not just political, but due to the social and economic reasons. Whosoever may be in power, atrocities and discrimination will continue. Dr. Ambedkar had said that without social democracy, political democracy will be meaningless, and for this, we must change the society - through deeksha into Buddhism, abolition of superstitions, creation of a casteless society; at least, caste divisions amongst Dalits must be annihilated.
From the time Dr. Udit Raj became a Member of Parliament, he has not left any opportunity to raise issues related to SC/STs in Parliament. The supporters are gearing up to assemble in lakhs on 28th November 2016 at Ramlila Maidan, New Delhi.
