Corrosion monitoring expert Cosasco will display its Downhole Corrosion Monitoring System (DCMS™) at the DUG Eagle Ford exhibition, booth 2030. The show takes place on October 25-27 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center (San Antonio, Texas).

Production wells typically contain water, carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide, which combine with varying temperatures in downhole tubing to create an extremely corrosive environment. The DCMS is a tubular electronic instrument that uses a Cosasco electrical resistance probe to determine the rate of metal loss within the downhole tubing. It is the only tool on the market that provides corrosion rate data from within hostile downhole environments to test the efficacy of corrosion inhibitor treatments and ensure safe, environmentally friendly, economical operation.

The DCMS is constructed from highly corrosion resistant 17-4 PH stainless steel, and designed to withstand temperatures up to 302°F (150°C) and pressures up to 10,000 psi. It has a battery life of 90 days with measurement settings at two hour intervals, allowing for enough time to accurately evaluate corrosion inhibitor effectiveness.
