OMEGA HOUSE Becomes a Famous Haunt for Celebrities and Stars of the Rio Olympics
Officially open for the first time in Rio, OMEGA HOUSE looked spectacular for its début on 6th August 2016. Showing a more glamorous side to their Olympic presence, OMEGA HOUSE is a stunning series of rooms designed to welcome guests who need a break from the intensity of the games. Rich in Bohemian history and culture, Casa De Cultura is a simple, beautifully-designed building that makes excellent use of natural light, classic architecture and unforgettable views out across one of the world's most famous beaches. Besides the swaying palm trees and black and white mosaic sidewalks of Ipanema, the location has been reimagined and transformed into the setting for OMEGA HOUSE.
Eddie Redmayne, the Oscar-winning actor and Omega brand ambassador, was the guest of honour at the opening night of OMEGA HOUSE in Rio de Janeiro. He arrived looking as stylish as ever, accompanied by his stunning wife, Hannah Redmayne. Enhancing the glamour of the evening, the opening night was also attended by several notable guests including His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco, legendary Brazilian sailor - Torben Grael, Brazilian designer Francisco Costa and American actress Camilla Belle.
They shared the red carpet with Eddie, who spoke about his excitement in opening the House, saying, "I was told that OMEGA HOUSE was going to be breath-taking and it is. It's going to be a great place to people - watch and hopefully see if I can spot a few Olympians. It's Heaven."
Speaking on stage during the evening, Eddie also gave his impressions of Brazil. He said, "I've never been to Brazil before. But this country has such a reputation for energy, vibrancy, culture, dance and music. But all of my expectations have been superseded. My wife and I feel very lucky to be here."
The Olympic Games celebrations continued at OMEGA HOUSE in Rio as the doors were opened to special VIP guests including Sergio Garcia, Buzz Aldrin, Bastian Baker amongst many others.
OMEGA & Olympics:
OMEGA's longstanding partnership with the International Olympic Committee has made it the Official Timekeeper of the Olympic Games since 1932, when it became the first company tasked with timing every sport at the event. In addition to its timekeeping and data handling activities, OMEGA has been behind the development of some of the most important technological breakthroughs used in sports timing, including the photoelectric cell, starting blocks and false start sensors and the touchpads that are such a familiar sight in swimming pools.
On 26 occasions since 1932, OMEGA has fulfilled the prestigious role of Official Timekeeper at the Olympic Games. Now, as the world's attention turns to Rio de Janeiro, the brand will once again assume its duties, with the same commitment and passion that has stood the test of time.
While it's impossible to predict which athletes will be standing on the medal podiums, one thing is certain: their winning performances will have been timed and recorded by OMEGA, a brand renowned for excellence in timekeeping.
In Rio in 2016, golf will return to the Olympic Games for the first time in more than a century and OMEGA looks forward to welcoming its friends from the world of golf to the highest-profile sporting event on earth.
