ASPIRING...AWARE...ALERT INDIA
The report throws an interesting light on the expectations of Indian citizens who are strongly opinionated and clear in their thought and preference. The survey is unique in its investigative questioning on the Indian economy, society and political frontiers. The questions probe India's contradictions, dissenting notes, self-destructive policies and neglected reforms. Yet, the questions also probe India's positive phase - its definitive, emphatic reforms for wrong doings and the beneficial, constructive and optimistic perspectives in its journey towards reforms.
The most sought-after electoral reform in India is the minimum qualification and a clear track record for the candidates who want to contest an election. Transparency in accounting of political parties and the Women's Reservation Bill are also amongst the most sought-after reforms. Given an opportunity to be the Prime Minister of the country, the respondents would like to remove corruption, inflation and crime against women from the system. In view of most of the respondents, corruption and high prices are likely to be the key issues that will decide the fate of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Almost three fourth of the respondents have voted in favour of the introduction of Food Security Bill. According to the respondents, high inflation is the toughest hurdle in India's economic growth. Political differences, policy paralysis, and possibility of fractured mandate are also worrisome in this regard.
Aadhar and Direct Bank Transfer of subsidies have been considered to be the most welcomed reforms. Opening up the economy through FDI in critical areas has also been greeted warmly. Majority of respondents agree that the country's competitiveness in IT Services can be the best economic growth driver.
Knowledge is considered as the best resource to convert India into a land of innovation and scientific progress. Enhancement of the same through educational reforms and building world class facilities are suggested as top mediums for the same. The good news is that most of the respondents prefer extreme punishments for crime against women. More than three fourth of the respondents have termed the Uttarakhand calamity as a man-made disaster.
Our researchers score a few points that draw attention that young India is watchful, wide awake and sensitive to national issues - they are mentally agile, attentive, quick, ready and sharp-eyed. The new India represents an unbiased view that reflects a responsible society. India is not backward due to its society or the ideation of its people, but India is lagging behind because of inaction. If the leadership works in sync of the progressive thoughts of the society, India can be a super power without any doubt.
