Revealing several interesting trends, the study shows 80% and 55% upsurge in online requests for Event organizers and Catering services, respectively, across India in the last one year.

Today people are putting a premium on variety of cuisine, different kinds of décor, different themes for the events etc. and are willing to pay a premium price to make their events, the talk of the town. This is validated by the meteoric rise in searches for professional caterers and event organizers across the country on Sulekha, one of the biggest local services website in India.
A total of 830,000 searches on Sulekha local services platform were analysed in the last one year (July 2015 to June 2016) for Event organizers and Catering services categories. The searches garnered close to 32000 online requests in the aforementioned categories. The study covers top 8 key metros in the country - Delhi - NCR, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Pune. The study provides further information about the most popular Catering & Events related categories people are searching on the platform. The categories are listed below in the order of most searched to least searched:
- Birthday party organizers
- Party caterers
- Wedding organizers
- Corporate event organizers
- Balloon decorators
- Veg/Non-veg caterers
- Packed tiffin/lunch/dinner caterers
- Wedding caterers
- Specific cuisine caterers - For example - Italian/Chinese/Arabic/Gujarati/Punjabi caterers
People always go to wedding organizers and caterers for large parties. Through this study, it's observed that there is a rise in searches of categories like balloon decorators and birthday party organizers. It shows that the upwardly mobile in our metros are leaving no stone unturned to make sure that their kids have a memorable birthday experience. It also shows that today's parents put a premium on spending time with their children on their special day, rather than slaving in the kitchen or in organizing.
Key findings of the study:
- Compared to last year, there is an almost 80% rise in online search for Event organizers
- The top 3 markets that have seen the maximum growth are: Kolkata (104%), Delhi - NCR (96%), and Mumbai (77%), indicating higher search for professionally managed events
- The most active markets for the Event organizers categories in terms of searches were Delhi - NCR, Mumbai and Bangalore
- Caterers and catering-related categories witnessed a 55% rise compared to the number of searches for these categories last year
- The top 3 markets that have seen the maximum growth are: Hyderabad (88%), Pune (63%), and Mumbai (58%), stating an increased demand for catering services categories
-Bangalore, Chennai and Mumbai are the most active markets with the maximum number of searches across catering services related searches
Observation across categories
- Birthday party organizers is the most searched category and Balloon decorators is the category that has seen the maximum growth in the last one year - a growth of more than 5000% across top 8 metro cities.
- Veg caterers is the most searched category and Punjabi caterers is the category that has seen the maximum growth in the last one year - a growth of 1200% across all cities surveyed.
Other interesting findings:
- Bangalore, Mumbai and Delhi contribute more than 50% of both, the caterers and event organizers searched across India
- The leading Event organizers in India are: Roman Events & Entertainment, Global Nexus and Cheerful Events
- The leading caterers in India are: Vivaaha Caterers, Akshaya Catering and Poornasree Catering
