Indian Classical Music Goes Digital With HCL Music

App for classical Indian and fusion music launched on World Music Day 

HCL, a leading global conglomerate, today launched HCL Music, the world's first free music app dedicated to Indian classical music. Launched on the occasion of World Music Day, the app houses a collection of Indian classical music across genres including Hindustani, Carnatic and fusion music. HCL Music will feature recordings of live performances from legendary artists, high quality studio recordings featuring maestros, forgotten collections of legends and an assortment of crowd sourced music by young and aspiring artists. The app is available on both the Apple app store and the Google Play store.

The newly launched HCL Music app aims to be the largest ever repository of classical content and also give upcoming artists a platform to showcase their talent. The app will stream uninterrupted music as it is offered without any subscription fee or ads. 

To celebrate the launch of HCL Music and to underline the importance of this unique initiative of taking classical music digital, HCL will host the world's first ever classical music virtual concert today. The concert will be streamed live on HCL Concerts Facebook and YouTube channels and will feature one of the most prominent vocalists of India - Kaushiki Chakraborty and Sitar maestro - Purbayan Chatterjee. The artists will be accompanied by Ojas Adhiya on the Tabla, Ajay Joglekar on Harmonium, and Meghodeepa Gangopadhyay and Megha Rawoot on the Tanpura. 

About the artists performing at the Virtual Concert:

Kaushiki Chakraborty started her journey under the tutelage of her mother Chandana Chakraborty and father Ajoy Chakrabarty and is today one of the most prominent vocalists of India. She has been awarded with numerous laurels, including the BBC World Music Award - 2005 and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar - 2012.

Purbayan Chatterjee is considered as one of the finest Sitar players today. A recipient of the President of India Award for being the Best Instrumentalist of the country at the age of 15, Purbayan has performed at esteemed venues in his international career spanning 26 years, including the prestigious Queen Elizabeth Hall, London, and the Sydney Opera House.
