With the Make In India, Skill India and Start up drives and various global clean energy initiatives, the demand for Renewable Energy is rising and the Indian government's serve to compliment the growth of organisations in the Renewable Energy sector. Being in the 4th year of existence, the awards have grown impressively in terms of participation and credibility with over 100% increase in the number of nominations this year. The REI Award is now being recognised as a benchmark of achievement in the industry, due to its unbiased approach towards showing the spotlight on the very best the industry has to offer.
The extensive award categories this year were crafted, keeping in mind, the diverse segments in the renewable energy sector. Three new categories were introduced this year; RE Skilling - which was inspired by Skill India, RE Start Ups and RE End Users. Apart from this, the award categories for 2018 consisted of Excellence in Bio Energy, E-mobility and Storage Solutions, RE Applied Research, Leading EPC - Solar Ground Based and Solar Rooftop, RE RESCO, Off Grid Renewables Innovation, RE Developers, RE Manufacturers - Component Manufacturing and Solar Modules, RE International Excellence - Indian Companies and Foreign Companies, Special Recognition - RE Technology/Product Innovation and Individual for Creating Extraordinary Difference in Clean Cooking.
The awards are conducted methodically with a process driven robust approach and a neutral jury which comprises industry think tanks who have championed the cause of their chosen domain expertise within the RE sector. The REI Awards now follow a two-step judging process that has been highly appreciated by both, jury and participants, and it has strengthened the evaluation process, pulling in nominees of extremely high calibre.
The Jury Panel for REI 2018 included Mr. Ajit Gupta, Former Adviser in the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India; Mr. Kuljit Singh Popli, CMD, Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (IREDA); Mr. Anurag Mishra, Senior Clean Energy Specialist, United States Agency for International Development (USAID); Mr. Bharat Bhargava, Director General, ONGC Energy Centre; Mr. Pankaj Batra, Member (Planning), Central Electricity Authority and Mr. Tobias Winter, Director, Indo German Energy Forum (IGEF).
