KD Singh Foundation - Support Cell for Rape Victims Welcomes Delhi Gang-rape Verdict and Sentencing
NEW DELHI, September 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
The KD Singh Foundation - Support Cell for Rape Victims, which provides a comprehensive, three-tiered, medical, legal and rehabilitation support to rape survivors - has welcomed the verdict and sentence passed by the fast-track court hearing the Delhi Gang-Rape case. The foundation established by Dr KD Singh, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and the Head, North India, All India Trinamool Congress, has supported over 100 rape survivors across Haryana till date.
Commenting on the verdict and the sentence, Dr KD Singh said, "A fast-track court has finally pronounced the four remaining accused guilty and given them the maximum possible sentence. I welcome the judgment and hope that it sets the right precedent for the countless other rape cases in India today which currently are at various stages of legal proceedings. At the same time, the issue is also about maintaining the efficacy of the judicial system and instilling fear in the minds of potential offenders that there is no escaping the law."
"Our Foundation deals with the plight of rape survivors every day and is their partner in their fight for justice and rehabilitation. Women play a fundamental role in the development of a nation and the least we can do is to provide a just and civil society where they can move without fear. We hope the judgment and sentence will act as an effective deterrent and also serve as a warning to rapists and habitual offenders," Dr Singh added.
The KD Singh Foundation - Support Cell for Rape Victims works extensively with rape survivors and provides comprehensive support to the rape survivors through its efficient team of social workers, lawyers and volunteers, who are spread across the towns and villages of Haryana. It also runs a 24x7 toll-free help line number 1800-200-2056 for the benefit of the rape survivors and their families. The KD Singh Foundation plans to support other diverse causes ranging from education and health care to youth counselling, too.
