- Lack of Budget for an NGO - A Major Impediment to Managing the Online Presence
UBM India, in association with Public Interest Registry, today released the results of a survey that provides an insight into the current challenges faced by NGOs in India in the online medium. The survey states that 85% of the NGOs admit that sustaining the online presence is extremely important given the growing importance of the technology and digital space in today's digital age.

Online presence is crucial for NGOs as it allows them to reach out to a much wider audience for their cause and spread awareness deploying limited resources. Even though most of the NGOs have a website, majority feel that they are unable to sustain and maintain the website for greater impact. Today, majority of NGOs leverage their websites primarily for providing information (26%); most NGOs are driven by causes, and it is natural to see that the focus of their online presence is to promote or support a cause (20%).
Key Findings of The UBM India - Public Interest Registry survey
Managing the online presence:
- 34% lack the technical knowhow and the expertise to manage a website
- 33% cite lack of budget as a major impediment
- 21% lack adequate personnel to manage an online presence
Purpose of the digital medium:
- 26% use their websites primarily for providing information
- 18% use their websites for fundraising
- 18% use their websites to increase the number of volunteers pledged to the cause of the NGOs.
