MICA witnessed a landmark celebration on its main campus lawns on Saturday, April 1, 2017. 160 students of the 22nd batch of Post Graduate Diploma in Management - Communications (PGDM-C), three students from the Fellow Programme in Management - Communications (FPM-C) and 23 students of the 26th batch of Post Graduate Certificate Programme in Crafting Creative Communication (PGCP-CCC) graduated while proud parents, friends and relatives watched from the sea of audience who turned up for the event.

The convocation began with the Invocation ceremony and was declared open after the lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest, Mr. Ronnie Screwvala, Founder of the UTV Group, Unilazer Ventures, UpGrad and Swades Foundation; Mr. Madhukar Kamath, President, MICA & Member of MICA Governing Council; Dr. Tridip Suhrud, Acting Director, MICA & Member of MICA Governing Council and Dr. Shailendra Mehta, Incoming President and Director, MICA.
Dean, Dr. Preeti Shroff extended her warm welcome to those present, and introduced the Chief Guest, Mr. Ronnie Screwvala. Post the welcome address, the diplomas and certificates were conferred on the students by the Governing Council of MICA and the students individually received the diplomas and certificates from the Chief Guest.
This was followed by a convocation address by the Chief Guest, Mr. Ronnie Screwvala. Addressing the students, Mr. Screwvala spoke of his unique entrepreneurial journey and outlined his success mantras and also spoke of the failures he faced in his unconventional career. He urged the students to take the next month or two to reflect on what they would want to do for the rest of the their lives and think of what their goals are. He gave them the mantra of 12 Cs of Confidence, Clarity, Communication, Conviction, Collaboration, Culture, Change, Comfort zone, Compromise, Customer, Choices, and Curiosity that would help them be successful in life. He evoked the graduating batch to think beyond their comfort zone and dream big with their eyes open. He asked the students to always look out for collaborative efforts towards success. As they step out of the warm and nurturing culture of MICA, he warned the students that they might face harsh environments in the industry. While they need to learn to adapt to the new culture, he asked them to find the company whose culture allows them to grow, succeed and enjoy their work.
The MICA community then remembered and paid tribute to the founder of Mudra Group and MICA, Mr. A. G. Krishnamurthy. Mrs. Krishnamurthy and her son Mr. Kalyan Krishnamurthy awarded the Gold, Silver and Bronze medals to graduates attaining the top three positions in the PGDM-C programme. The President's award for academic excellence was given to graduates attaining the top three positions in the CCC programme.
After the presentation of medals and merit certificates, the annual 'PAT Memorial Outstanding Alumnus Award' was announced. This award was instituted in the year 2014 in the memory of former MICA Director Prof. Atul Tandan (or PAT as he was called lovingly) who served MICA from 2001 to 2009 and passed away in March 2015. This award is given to a MICA alumnus who has had a great career growth, occupies a leadership position and has contributed to societal good. The winner is selected from amongst the nominations received from MICA fraternity. This year the award was given to Rajat Tuli, an alumnus from the batch of 1998. Rajat is the co-founder of Happily Unmarried and Ustraa. Happily unmarried is India's first desi lifestyle brand. Using popular culture, emerging trends, design and cultural insights, it created products which became part of the youth vocabulary. Ustraa was the first male grooming brand to be launched in the country and one the rare examples of an FMCG brand making it a success by selling only online. In less than 2 years Ustraa has become a very popular brand having reached out to over 2 lakh customers all over the country.
Following this, the MICA Year Book was released by the Chief Guest. The Year Book is an old tradition at MICA and captures the essence of nostalgia and fond memories for the outgoing batch of students. The proceeding of International Communication Management Conference 2017 was also released on the occasion.
Mr. Madhukar Kamath, President of MICA gave a review of the academic year. He reflected on how MICA has grown over the last 26 years from a small group to a huge campus with 3456 trees, with an alumni base of over 3100 and new academic centres - MICA Centre for Development Management and Communication, MICA Centre for Media and Entertainment Development, and MICA Incubator. He also announced the initiation of the MICA Alumni Association that has been set up and will be run entirely by MICA alumni group and will help in strengthening the institution. As the outgoing President, he thanked everyone for their support in building MICA and helping it grow as such a strong institution and bade goodbye.
Thereafter the convocation was declared closed and the convocation procession left the lawns. The starlit night will forever be etched in MICAn hearts as the MICA family and guests enjoyed a lavish dinner hosted to mark this spectacular milestone in MICA's history.
