The conference began with an opening address by Jason Pontin, Editor-in-chief and Publisher, MIT Technology Review and R. Sukumar, Editor, Mint. This was followed by a special address by R.S. Sharma, Chairman, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India.
V. Vaidyanathan, Chairman, Capital First Group while talking about how digital is revolutionising the financial sector, said, "A decade ago the country head of a bank used to fly down to inaugurate a new ATM, but now technology is not seen as something dramatic, it is a part of everyone's life and while looking ahead at the next 5-7 years, the amount of changes and disruption that this word 'Technology' is going to bring, I feel has not yet dawned on people."
John T. Chambers, Executive Chairman, CISCO Systems Inc. and Chairman of the U.S. India Business Council, gave a keynote address on Digitization and the Indian Economy; he highlighted that, "The transition on digitization is the biggest thing happening in India and that the process is revolutionary but brutal." He also added that, "If everything goes right, I think (in 5 years), India would be the fastest growing major economy in the world, a startup nation."
Rahul Munjal, Founder and MD, Hero Future Energies threw light on the Future of Clean Energy, he said, "Everything that has been discussed here today needs energy. If India needs to progress, India needs a lot of energy. The reality is that not as a country or the world can we afford to burn anymore coal, be it for innovation or anything else as there will be no world left then. So in India's case also, we need a lot of energy but it has to be clean energy."
Jack Hidary, Founder and Chairman, Samba Energy and Senior Adviser at Google X Labs, joined on live video chat to deliver the keynote address on how India can become a moon-shot nation.
Some of the other sessions included sessions around drones, 3D printing, Robotics, having eyes on the Moon, how to develop successful mobile apps.
The conference ended with a ceremony to honor the 10 winners of the; 'Innovators under 35 - India edition'. Organized by MIT Technology Review since 1999, the prestigious Innovators under 35 global competition has honoured some of the world's most brilliant minds such as Mark Zuckerberg, JB Straubel, Larry Page and Sergey Brin. This year, Mint and MIT Technology Review, came together to bring this iconic opportunity to the best innovators in India.
