Saina Nehwal's Winning Run Ends in Semis of BWF Destination Dubai World Superseries Finals

After a brilliant display of world class badminton all week, India's Saina Nehwal's run to the finals of the BWF Destination Dubai World Superseries Finals came to an end this afternoon, when she went down to Tai Tzu Ting of Chinese Taipei 11-21, 21-13, 21-9.

The crowd favourite all week, Nehwal again had great support but it wasn't enough to carry her to victory against her determined and skilled opponent. Tzu Ying had defeated Nehwal at the Hong Kong Open last month, and repeated that result, outplaying her with great shot selection.

A disappointed Nehwal said: "I think I was really tired in the second (game), I started well, but again when the long rallies started happening I felt a little tired. Yesterday's game was also very tough on me. Of course she's got some difficult strokes, unless you are fresh you can't pick them up, you have to keep on running.

"She's in good form, she's playing well. I tried my best, I could have played a bit more safe, there were too many mistakes I did and unforced errors. I have to still work on that.

When asked if it is hard to deal with her tricky angle shots, Nehwal replied "Her difficult shots are disturbing because you feel you have it covered and she still picks it up. Obviously she has her dangerous strokes, they're her speciality. That's where she's been winning matches. If yesterday's match hadn't been so long, maybe I could have done better.

"I found this season was really difficult because there were so many tournaments, I just felt tired after yesterday's match maybe need some more time to train and get fitter.

"My focus now is the next season. It's good we'll have a two month break before the next tournament. Recover now and come back stronger. Hopefully next time I'll do better.

Tai Tzu Ying will now meet the winner of the match between Sung Ji Hyun (Korea) and Akane Yamaguchi (Japan) in tomorrow's BWF Destination Dubai World Superseries Women's Singles Final.
