Small Town Edutech Startup 'LearnFatafat' Helps Students Understand Textbooks Without Reading
BHUSAWAL, India, June 13, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --
Anything can be learnt in three minutes, yes, that is possible with Learnfatafat. LearnFatafat, the edutech start-up simplifies complex textbook concepts to simple videos which helps students to learn anything in three minutes. 'LearnFatafat', as the word itself suggests, learn anything fatafat (quickly) through visualisation and digitalisation of books. Based on our honourable Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi's Digital India concept, LearnFatafat initiated a small step in the e-learning educational industry to avail equal and world-class education to every student from metros to rural areas in India.
This is how LearnFatafat.com started
One student came to Pankaj Chhajed (the Founder) with difficulties she was facing in understanding certain concepts. She said that she was unable to get the concept even after reading it three to four times and that the concept was too textual and boring. So, Pankaj read it, understood and used his knowledge and experience to explain it to her in a simple way by using live examples and visuals. She understood the concept quickly and clearly and this triggered Pankaj that there is a need to simplify complex textual concepts into a simple and easy-to-understand way. He realised the need of visualisation in education and after doing much research, he came up with the idea of converting textbooks into videos.
Research says our brain processes visuals 60,000 times faster than text. It is observed that - in a year a student spends approximately 1,100 hours in study and these hours increase up to a whopping 3,000 hours during class X and XII examinations and 60% of these hours are spent on reading textbooks.
Pankaj discussed his idea with the core business team and arranged brainstorming sessions. After lots of discussions and meetings, it was decided to simplify educational textbooks into videos and this is how LearnFatafat started. Within two months, on 29 June 2015, the idea conceptualised into a live product 'LearnFatafat.com', the beta version.
How launching the product was possible within two months?
LearnFatafat, a trademark of SDLC Services, is a startup from Bhusawal, a small city in India. Rural location, small team, no major technical capabilities and no experience in video making, many things were against the team. But they had a vision to make a difference, a vision to make world-class products from Bhusawal. With that vision in mind, the team worked day and night to produce the pilot version.
Within two months the idea was conceptualised into the live product. LearnFatafat is backed by SDLC Services which provided business analysis for five years to clients across the globe. SDLC Services is an ISO 9001:2015 certified company. SDLC was featured in Asia's leading magazine YourStory under the title 'How to lead a successful tech business from a small town: SDLC story'.
Within a week of its launch, LearnFatafat started gaining traction among students. Their popularity among students increased because of very simple, easy-to-understand, short videos covering almost 100% of the syllabus. Nothing more than textbooks and nothing less than textbooks concept helped students to focus on what is required to study rather than learning unnecessary extra concepts.
"Our popularity increased because of our user experience in product design and our communication with users. We always listened to our users and followed continuous improvement approach to give best viable solution to our users," says Pankaj.
Initially the course was available online only, on realising that Internet penetration is still low in India and many students don't have access to good Internet connection. LearnFatafat came up with an offline model consisting of educational DVD's and educational pen drives, where students can learn and use e-learning service without Iinternet. LearnFatafat is among very few edutech companies in India having installable software versions and offline education. We Indianised the accent in videos so that they can be understood by all classes of students.
Traction
LearnFatafat is gaining wide popularity with 5000+ active users, 40k followers on Facebook and 2k+ subscribers on YouTube. We have many paid users across India and the offline version will add close to 1000 paid users. LearnFatafat also has a tie-up with few schools as a pilot. Users are calling themselves as 'Lovers of LearnFatafat', they are loving and using the edutech platform for quick understanding, quick revision, crash courses, doubt clearance and self assessment.
